Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is reintroducing its wash-and-fold laundry and dry cleaning services, along with other in-office perks, at its Silicon Valley headquarters in an effort to boost employee morale. Tracy Clayton, a spokesperson for Meta, confirmed that the laundry services are now available to staff at its Menlo Park headquarters and satellite offices.
The laundry service was suspended in March 2022 when the company implemented hybrid work schedules. With employees spending less time in the office, it made sense to remove the perk. However, as Meta shifts back to a three-day office attendance policy, the return of laundry services aims to facilitate the transition for employees.
One significant change is that employees will now have to pay for the laundry service themselves, whereas it was previously provided for free. The pricing will depend on the type and quantity of laundry, as well as any dry cleaning requirements.
In addition to the laundry service, Meta is also reintroducing other incentives to encourage in-office attendance. Company dinners will now be available earlier in the evening to accommodate more employees, while free lunches are already provided. A company-subsidized coffee shop has also opened, and the stock of La Croix sparkling water has been replenished more frequently.
It is worth noting that these efforts to boost morale come on the heels of significant layoffs at Meta, which took place in November 2022 and March 2023. With CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s “year of efficiency” campaign, nearly 21,000 employees worldwide were affected.
Overall, Meta’s decision to restore laundry service and other in-office benefits signals an effort to improve employee satisfaction and ease the return to office work.
