Have you ever wanted to create a stunning gallery wall of decorative Fornasetti plates but couldn’t justify the hefty price tag? Well, we have the perfect DIY hack for you. Interior stylist and content creator Maisie Violet Rees has shared a genius and budget-friendly Instagram hack that allows you to recreate the look of Fornasetti plates using upcycled items.
In a recent video, Maisie takes us through the process of creating a Fornasetti-style plate gallery wall. The best part? It’s a quick and easy project that can be completed in under an hour.
To get started, head to your local charity shop or rummage through your own kitchen cabinets for white plates in different sizes. These can be purchased for as little as 50p or £1 each. Make sure the plates are in good condition and not chipped or scratched.
Next, you’ll need to print out a collage sheet. You can either use Maisie’s provided free template or create your own. Print the images on a waterslide decal paper and cut them out. Wet the cut-out images in a bowl of water.
Now comes the fun part. Place the stencil exactly where you want it to go on the plate and remove the bottom layer of the decal paper. The top layer will stick to the plate, creating a professional-looking design. Let the plates dry, and you’re almost done.
To hang your plates, use adhesive wall-hanging plate discs. Measure and lay out your plates on the wall to create the perfect gallery wall display. The end result will be a show-stopping display that only cost you around £30.
This DIY hack allows you to create a luxurious-looking gallery wall on a budget. So get creative and upcycle those old plates into beautiful works of art.
